I am feeling somewhat overwhelmed right now. I have
two cats in the geriatric ages (11 and 13). Both have
been requiring extensive veterinary care and it is
collapsing me financially. I found your web site and
decided to give it a shot here to see how you might be
able to help me.
My 13 year old cat: Three years ago he was diagnosed
with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Cardio Myopathy.
He has been on Tenormin and Prednoisone. There was
some suspicion that he had epilopsy. Several weeks
ago, I found him in the middle of a seizure. Since
then he has had three more. So, my vet put him on
phenobarbitol and it has suppressed the seizures and
he seems very calm, however it is going to require
regular blood tests to monitor his liver and kidney
functions. He needs another ecco-cardiogram and
another colonoscopy but I cannot afford the costs
associated with this now as I only have one income at
this time. I currently feed him W/D from Science Diet
and he get spring water to drink.
My 11 year old: She is obese. We cannot get her
weight down and so my vet put her on R/D from Science
Diet. The diet is not working because R/D is too
restrictive and she is not feeling satisfied so she
follows me around wringing her paws in despiration for
food. She cannot clean her bottom because she cannot
get to it and my house is beginning to smell of urine
as she carries it around with her after the litter box
and deposits urine and fecal matter all over the
place. I live in a one floor condo so she gets very
little exercise. I tried to take her out on walks but
she is too fearful of the outdoors, so she gets no
exercise. She also has to have recent anal sack
cleaning and had to have them packed with antiobiotics
recently.
I just am at my wits end with these two beloved
animals, whom I cherish but just cannot let them
destroy me financially nor ruin my home. Got any
ideas?
Rebecca
