I'm new here & trying to help someone on
my AOL Shih Tzu board. Her 3 year old dog
has deteriorating spinal discs
Welcome to the PurelyPets list! I'm so sorry to hear about the Tsu with the
bad back.
According to Pitcairn, nutrition should be heavily emphasized. Only natural
diet and supplements. Canine Massage is also helpful (just don't actually
touch the spine itself). Then there are several homeopathic remedies
suggested depending on what symptomology is presented. You can contact me
privately for more precise recommendations.
Is the Tsu on a very good diet to begin with? I would probably recommend
trying Nupro liver flavored powder vitamin/mineral supplement because it has
the supplemental requirements suggested and the dogs really love it. The 1
lb containers are on sale right now 10% off for $9.85 at PurelyPets.com. You
have to write "SALE" in the special comments section when you place your
order and we adjust the invoice on this end.
Another product that would be helpful would be:
Shark'Rah (20% off for 21.60):
A pure Shark Cartilage. Each teaspoon contains 2500 mg. of shark cartilage
powder concentrate. This pharmaceutical grade cartilage is far superior, due
to its higher Mucopolysaccharide content (up to 20% more than standard), low
ash and fat content and its solubility.
Found to be beneficial in lubricating joints, reducing pain from
arthritis and injuries. Sharks are also highly touted for their remarkable
anti-cancer genes. Cartilage has also been used successfully in reducing
tumors.
I'd recommend Yucca Intensive if there is swelling.
Either that or InflamAway Extra Strength (200 wafers, 20% off for 47.99).
That product incorporates both the joint lubricating compounds and the pain
and inflamation control in one item.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you need further assistance.
