Hello,
I'd like to take a couple minutes of your time to introduce myself
and explain my recent interest in holistic care not only form myself
and my pets, but also for the dogs that we have in our rescue
program.

About 7 months ago, my husband and I formed Loving Spots Dalmatian
Rescue. We rescue homeless and unwanted dogs, rehabilitate them if
need be and then re-home them in new loving permanent homes. And
since dogs come to us from many resources (shelters, pounds, vets,
strays, & owner surrenders) we find that there are more and more that
have "little problems". These little problems range from Demodicosis
(Demodex-red mange) to epilepsy and come with a box of sprays,
powders, pills, collars, and so on. Before we were in rescue, we
personally adopted a Dalmatian that had epilepsy. After the first
time she had a seizure in our home, we rushed her to the vet, and of
course a Rx was written for pheno-barb. Well little did we know that
this so-called remedy ended up killing her.
Hence the reason for trying to find a more natural way to treat our
dogs and ourselves.

We now know what causes some of pet's health problems and hence the
reasons for us now feeding a kibble food made by Solid Gold and
supplementing it with a BARF diet.

Before we start asking questions and not understanding the answers,
is there any reading material that you can suggest us read to better
understand the basics? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jessica & Chris Logan

Hi! Welcome to the list. There are many, many great books out there, but the two that I pick up most often are Dr. Pitcairn's and Dr. Goldstein's. In the...
