Hi, Carley, my boxer has really bad allergies -- some food allergies that
manifested itself with the same symptoms as IBD. In fact, before I switched
vets, the first vet was insistant on giving an endoscope to confirm that
Rocky's bowels were inflamed. I refused the test and switched vets because
with all of my own research I came to the conclusion that IBD is a symptom
of something deeper, such as the allergies in my case. I decided to delve a
little further and try to find the CAUSE of the IBD, hence how I found out
my dog had allergies. I started a raw food diet about 18 mos ago -- let me
just tell you, my dog has not had a case of diahhrea since I started this
diet. Every once in a while his stools get a little soft from too many
veges, but full blown runs or blood does not happen any more. In fact, my
dog has made a complete turn around. I would highly suggest that she try
this diet. I am a believer -- so much so, in fact, that I have also
switched my other boxer who was doing perfectly well on kibble to the raw
food diet. If it's possible, she is doing even better -- both of my dogs
are thriving -- Rocky has been able to be completely weaned from all meds,
and even during this very bad allergy time of year, we are holding our own.
At the very most, he gets a benedryl once in a while now on a really bad
day. I highly recommend it, but your friend must be aware that she will not
see a completely new dog overnight. It took many, many months of building
nutrition and detox to get Rocky where he is now. Many times I wanted to
give up, but perseverance is the key. Please tell your friend that if she
wants to correspond directly to me, she may. My e-mail address is
sdoyle@... Good luck. I highly recommend the change and if she decides
to go this way, I can give you the e-mail address and telephone number of a
nutritionist who specializes in the raw diet and a herbalist that can help
your friend get through the rough spots holistically with herbs.
