Oh gosh Sarah, Id hate to ill advise you since your baby has diabetes, but
for MY guy, we buy chicken breasts and sometimes thighs, (we use mostly boned
and skinned) but we usually DO use several packages WITH the skin and bone
on. He DOES need fat. Then we steam cook the meat in a double boiler type
pot. We use brown organic rice, although you can use millet, or other grains
(refer to Pitcairns book! Its a good one!) and we cook the rice until done,
set aside, then move on to the mixing part. We usually use fresh spinach for
his veggie. Its got Vit C and A in it, so we like it, and it makes it a
pretty green color LOL :-) We do add Vitamins, and I cant tell you just
how much, because its different every time, depending on his current needs.
You really should get Pitcairns book on Natural health for your animal,
because THATS where we originally found the recipe that we've been using for
2 years now. After everything is cooked up, it has to be measured out--
mostly meat, to rice and spinach (cant remember exactly, again check
pitcairns) however, we DO play w/the mix, according to what my Cat likes, and
his needs. He DOES get to eat RAW chicken breast on occasion, that really
does seem to be the best for him, but it can be a shock to his tummy, so we
give it in w/the cooked food. The whole process of cutting, cleaning,
preparing, cooking, separating the food takes about 3 hours. It truly is a
labor of love. I will NOT feed my Cat canned food. I personally think it
contributes to disease. It did for HIM. Since stopping it, his asthma has
disappeared. Only during certain x of the year when the pollen or mold is
bad, does he get sniffly. But not ONE more attack! :-) AND, I took him OFF
the Prednisone last year AGAINST my Dr.s wishes. He's doing better than
ever.
Hope this helped a bit Sarah-- you really should p/up a book to guide
you through doing it on your own. Then once you get proficient at it, you
can vary the ingredients, etc. Good luck! hugs, Kelly
