hi. my name is caroline. my husband and i have 2 boxers, an oriental
shorthair cat, a parrot and a fishtank.
our boxers:
our first boxer is a male fawn, neutered. born 7/16/94. diagnosed with
collitis a few months ago. also has allergies to bug bites (almost lost
him a few times!) his name is DAKOTA
our second boxer is a female white, spayed. born 8/21/98. she is deaf but
is learning to communicate via sign language. she is allergic to vaccines!
we almost lost her to her last set of puppy shots! her name is ZUKI
our cat is an ebony (black) oriental shorthair, neutered. he was our first
baby! he was born 9/26/92. his name is Eclipse but we call him EEKI for
short.
our parrot is a blue front amazon. he's been in my life longer than my
husband!!
i've had him since 1987. his name is JAKE.
the fish live in a 20 gallon fishtank.........they don't have names
though.....LOL
i subscribed to this list because i am very interested in alternative ways
of treating our pets. with two boxer that have allergies.......i'm always
searching for natural ways of treating their ailments.
dakota....(the male fawn boxer) has collitis. it flairs up when he gets
stressed, overly excited or if he doesn't eat when scheduled. his stomach
makes noises that you would have to hear for yourself to believe. it
gurgles and makes bubbley noises. when he's experiencing these
symptoms........he is all hunched up....looking like he is very
uncomfortable....(which, i'm sure he is)
currently, in order to treat these symptoms, we give him pepcid ac or
tagamet. it seems to help a little bit but not to much.
i don't know if we should change his diet or what. he is currenlty on
nutromax lamb and rice. he's been on it all his life and we never seemed
to have a problem until recently. i'm hesitant to change his food because
of another stomach upset.
in reading a pet catalog the other day, i noticed there is a product that
contains acedophillus. the same ingredient in yogurt. i was curious to
know if anyone gives their pet acedophillus for intestinal ailments. if
so, how much do you give and how often? will it help prevent excessive
diarrhea for my poor little baby?
ANY suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
well i think i've typed a long enough message......hello to all.......glad
to be a part of this list.
