Lorna,
I told you about the Yahoo Group I joined that deals
with natural medicine for animals. I asked a
questions about skin sensitivities for two of my dogs
and this is the answer I got from them. I wrote back
to her to get clarification on some of the things she
suggested. Thought you might be interested.

Does anyone have recommendations on how to deal with
these
2 skin problems? I really appreciate your
suggestions. Also,
how do you treat them for fleas and ticks.
hi linda causes are varied, including flea bite
sensitivities, food or
airbourne allergies, reactions to vaccines, and
chemicals in the enviroment and
diet. finding a effective treatment can be quiet
challangeing. typical convential
treatments include, steroids, antibiotics,
antihistimines and even
tranqualizers. while these drugs usually provide
temporary relief, long term use can
cause bigger problems such as adreanal, liver and
kidney disease. holistic vets say
that the sole use of these drugs can drive the disease
deeper into the body.
HOT SPOTS often devolope as the body trys to rid the
body of toxins or of
inner heat generated by poor quality dry food being
constantly fed to the animal.
as i said drugs may work for awhile but you will soon
find yourself back at
the vet with other problems associated from the drugs.
the skin is the bodys
largest organ of detoxification so a rash or skin
irratation is a sign the the
body needs to get rid of toxins. when the animal is
treated with drugs the
immune system is suppressed and the toxin is prevented
from leaving the body,
sometimes drugs are nessacery but not for long peroids
of time. here are some
things you can do to help your babies, feed a better
diet switch to a higher
quality and lower quanity protein foods, no vaccines
if not needed have a titer
test done FIRST!! vaccines are increasingly
associated with chronic disorders
and skin problems. use less cleaning chemicals in the
home, consider a
filteration system, shampoo frequently w/oatmeal
shampoo, rinse with water and apple
cider vinegar to bring skin back toi its normal PH.
use ceramic bowls for water
and feeding "no plastic". ayurvedic gel can be use
externaly. also neem plus
can be given in food to help heal from the inside. B
complex vitimans can
also help (lipocaps are good.)vit c (ester c is best)
and fish oils also help...
these are some sugestions, if ya need anymore help,
just ask,,, pam and the
hounds
