Re: [purelypets] Thanks for letting me join.

Good to "meet" you Linda! Your critters sound adorable. I'm new to this myself,
so I have no advice for you, but I'm sure others that are more educated in this
area will be able to help. That will be wonderful for you to get all that
training.......we need more people like that instead of the conventional ones.

Hi!
My name is Linda and I live in Norman, OK on 8 acres. I have
recently become interested in natural health after visiting a
Naturopathic physician for my blood pressure. I've had great
results and wished I knew more about how to transfer the
knowledge to animals. Because of my interest I have enrolled in
Trinity College of Natural Health to become a Certified Nutrition
Counselor and may later pursue the Naturopathic training.

I have always been an animal lover and have several. Right
now I have many animals, 3 which I'm trying to find homes for.

Toby, Jake, and Ellie are 3 pit bull/lab mixes that we found
abondoned on the side of the road along with their mother and 3
other siblings. We fed and watered them a week and the mother
and 3 sibling disappeared but we were able to eventually get the
remaining 3 to our home to care for during the cold winter
weather. We hope to find home for these guys. They weigh
about 40-45 pounds so are not small.

Sampson is a male Golden Retriever who is very lovable.
Goliath is a male Rottweiler Mix who is very loyal.
Rascal is a male chow mix who is quite the barker.
There three live together and are very fond of each other.

Indoors I have Sunny, a female blond pomeranian/poodle mix
and the love of my life - she's so devoted to me.
Toto, is a female black Cairn Terrier mix and so very sweet but
she loves to eat blankets and pillows. We work constantly to
keep her chewing on "her " blankets.

As for cats
I have one male, Charlie, who is yellow and a big baby. The rest
are females:
Claire, a tabby, who's been with me for 8 years, & only likes me
Sooner, a grey female cat who only likes me;
Annie, a calico female who loves everyone;
Krissy, a tortoise shell female we rescued from the side of the
road with 3 kittens who have all found homes now. She is so
loving and cuddly;
We also have a black/white cat who has established residence
but won't let anyone near him/her, can't really tell. He/she is not
very nice to the other cats. Not sure how to deal with this.

I'd love some advice on my present problem. I thought my 3 pup
siblings had mange but one has no more signs of it and the
other looks pretty good but Jake has terrible bald skin spots that
are very scaly and I don't know how to treat. I know it's not
mange because they are all together in the same pen and Ellie
doesn't have it at all.

Also, Rascal gets terrible summer itchy skin allergies. In the
past he's gotten some kind of shots from the vet that really help
but I began to feel uncomfortable about them. I've been giving
him Benedryl but he's lost lots of hair which comes back when
the weather gets cold. He scratches a lot.

Does anyone have recommendations on how to deal with these
2 skin problems? I really appreciate your suggestions. Also,
how do you treat them for fleas and ticks.

I look forward to getting to know some of you.
Linda
