Skippy & Roxie   Message List

Hi; I'm new to this group. My name is Alexandra and I have a 12yo nuetered male
cat named Skippy and an 8yo spayed female Doberman-Shepherd mix dog named Roxie.
I've been married for 14 years now & have so far been unable to have human
babies so my DH & I consider our animals to be our babies! Our Skippy is quite
the little character! He's so lovable & affectionate and he has extra toes so
that his paws look like little mittens; some say that to have a cat with extra
toes is good luck...I don't know if we've had much good luck but he has brought
so much joy into our lives! We had him since he was an 8-week old baby and I was
such a nervous wreck, being a new "mother". He couldn't even get into his litter
box because he was so small!!! He was just too cute for words! I could just go
on & on about him but that'll take forever! Now our dog, Roxie was adopted at
2yo from an animal rescue group and her homecoming did not go down well with
Skippy. I never even knew my baby kitty (we always call him a baby) could growl
like he did. Oh, he absolutely hated Roxie and resented her presence in HIS
territory. He growled, hissed & spit at her and he even attacked her. He was
fearless! At times I was actually scared he might kill her! In hindsight, I
realise I should have introduced the dog to the cat more slowly but eventually
they did settle down. Now Skippy just tolerates Roxie (I think he loves her but
doesn't want to admit it!). She sometimes tries to get him to play with her but
he just sits calmly in his place and raises up his paw and she goes running!
She's probably 5X bigger than him but she's afraid of him! She knows who the
boss is! It's really funny how they interact with each other. Well, that's my
introduction. I left out alot of stuff about my critters in order to keep it
brief but that was pretty hard to do! :-) I hope I can learn more about animal
care & issues from this group so I can be a better pet parent to my animals.
