Hello,

My name is Darlene, I just joined this group and hope to get some
advice as well as maybe help others with some of my knowledge. I have
2 dogs, A Rotti, a Chi, 2 persian cats, an Eclectus parrot, a
chinchilla, a frog, a dwarf hamster and 5 Siamese fighting fish.

My 2 1/2 year old male Rotti has had colitis, but it is
under control right now. My Vet had me switch to Wellness Fish and
Sweet Potatoe. I give him a half a can with 2 cups dry in the AM and
2 cups dry in the PM. He doesn't always finish the PM meal. They had
him on tylan powder. He no longer takes it. I would like to give him
a supplement that would help keep his good flora. Have you heard of a
product called Probac? You can get it from Canine Medicine Chest. It
puts back all the good bacteria back into the intestines. I feel I
would like to treat him with a holistic approach than keep him on
antibiotics for the rest of his life. As we all no, antibiotic
treatment gets rid of all the good and bad bacteria. He needs to gain
weight. He's not emaciated, but very thin. He weighs 92 lbs, but he
is a large Rotti. I have to be careful what I feed him, being fearful
his Colitis will return. Is there something out there to put weight
on for an under weight dog? I work for a large Vet practice, but my
Dr's take the conventional way of practice. They want to continue
with the tylan powder. As you can tell I'm very sceptical about the
treatment.
Any information you can give me will be most helpful.
Thank you,
Darlene
