I posed this question over on ObesityHelp.com and got no responses
related to the issue. I'm trying to find out if anyone has ever had
a shunt (VP, VA, or LP shunt) that was FUNCTIONING and had WLS
(weight loss surgery) NOT the LapBand.
I need a shunt badly and am supposed to be having a VP shunt
installed in 3 weeks. Then yesterday my state overturned my
insurance companys denial for a Duodenal Switch (type of WLS).. so
things are moving forward in that area, as well, but my bariatric
surgeon told me last night that he will not perform the DS if I have
a VP shunt, only if I have no shunt or a VA shunt.
I'm losing my mind a bit trying to make heads or tales of this
situation and waiting for calls back from my neurosurgeon and my
bariatric surgeon, but I need some feedback.. I know I can't be the
only person to have both of these issues.
Any help will be VERY appreciated!
