Hi Ralpha - it has been a while since I've felt like getting on and posting to be honest - my neuro would sometimes use a short course of steroids - a medrol dose pack - to break my pain cycle - and it usually worked - in the short term - I think it also depends on the dosage used - but...like you said, not enough known about us by the medical community! Hope Oregon is going well!

Denia--good to see you posting.
I understand that one suspected cause of IH is withdrawal from steroids...and that for some patients carrying a diagnosis of IH that steroids sometimes cause a flare of symptoms. So...maybe it is a chicken or egg, which comes first? Physicians frequently use short courses of steroids to try to "break" the pain cycle from pressure, along with meds like Diamox.
What do your doctors say about your compromised vision and the relationship with steroids. I used high dose steroids for 13 years following eye surgery for cancer, when I stopped taking them, my IH symptoms returned (after 20 years of remission). The medical community does not know enough about us...so I feel it is up to us...try www.ihrfoundation. org and join 900 patients in searching for answers!
Peace and prayers,

Hi - thanks for your prayers - I wish I could blame the cancer on ptc but I honestly don't believe they're associated at all - I was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in June - had a mastectomy a few days later and am currently waiting to start the radiation - which is every day for about 6 1/2 weeks - After having the shunt removed, have you seen any improvement in your vision? What does the neurologist say?
I hope you find some answers!

I hope everything is going ok with you and the chemo, is it related to the PTC in any way? While I was in the hospital awaiting to get my vp shunt, my neuro opth had me on 1000mg of solumedrol and 5000mg of diamox. Now I have fuzzy vision, unable to drive and on disability. I ended up having the shunt removed 8 months after it was put in and so it's been almost 5 months without it and no fluid build up or headaches. I am truely blessed. I will keep u in my prayers. --- Daniel Mcneill <de_mcneill@yahoo. com> wrote:
