Hi Guys,
Yes - I've been lurking again. Thank G-d my PTC ( and shunt ) are behaving themselves right now.
What is not behaving itself ( at all!! ) has been my gut!! I went to see a dietitian in January, and have been on her recommended diet ever since, and although I've lost 12kg's (about 26lbs ), I have had painful and embarrassing symptoms of the IBS ever since : bloating, pain and flatulence. I have tried to eliminate certain foods - lactose, wheat etc ( doesn't leave me with very much that I AM allowed to eat!! ) but all to no avail.
Eventually I went to see a Gastro-Enterologist : who did a Gastroscopy and Colonoscope last week : and he found that I have diverticula, but otherwise nothing is wrong. Dont get me wrong - I'm grateful that there is nothing sinister, but I am disappointed that I STILL have no answers to what is going on with me, and I STILL have to carry on with elimination diets..... GGRRRR
Anyway ( sorry for rambling ) - the GE doc prescribed a course of antibiotics - even through he says that the diverticuli are not infected, but still...... and when I got home, I noticed that one of the meds he has prescribed is Cipro.
I know that in normal situations, Cipro is a no-no with PTC, but my shunt is working perfectly right now - so would it still be a risk??
What do you think?
Hugs to you all from a very hot and sunny South Africa
Bev B
