Thank you for your response, I have printed it to give
to my brother-in-law. Having just begun his
radiation, which is the only treatment he is able to
have, I am sure he is on a roller-coaster of thoughts
and emotions. His count I believe is a 13, he is 66,
and has now taken his retirement from construction.
Having had cancer myself, 15 years ago, I experienced
many ups and downs, and will do the best I can to make
sure he stays on the up side. Good luck to you, and
God keep you well. Hat

Newly diagnosed(beginning of Sept) and found the right doctor and
hospital and began hormone(luprin/casodex) treatment till my prostate
shrinks enough for seeds and radiation. I went through all sorts of
mental stages ( still do)especialy since my gleason is a 9 but small
volume. ONLY he can come to grips with it. You might think he is in
the depths of depression but he might surprise you and be dealing
with himself and his short term future immediately and then the long
term future will follow. Im 60 but my wife and I dont have a burial
plot so I bought two for us this week in the group of plots near my
parents. My wife thought that this meant I was in deep depression. I
am not infact Im seeing things much clearer than before and I am the
same as I always was. I work part time ( retired 4 yrs ago) do all the
work for it as an administrator of a State testing program, take care
of the business of my family and dog and cat. do my other usual things
like my periodontal mantenance and care of my car.
He too will realize he has done his best to protect himself and go on
with life. We are going to Atlantic City this weekend and a play next
friday and dinner out on weekends. Movies that just came out and
sleep well and take viamins and things take care of themselves. Just
keep up with doctors appoinments and procedures. I hope this helps

My brother in law just began Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer.
He is becoming depressed, and I would like some info on books,
groups, whatever, to help him through this difficult time. Is there
someone out there, who can help me find information on encouraging
him, talking to him, reassuring him. I can relate to his fears and
concerns, as I had breast cancer 15 years ago, however his wife, my
sister, needs to know how to support and encourage him to keep up
the good fight. Thank you for your help. Hat
Hi Joe:
The low PSA, even with high Gleason, suggests a small volume of cancer.

Hello:
I was just looking at Yahoo! groups on prostate cancer and
happened to see your post. I am a urologist in Atlanta, Georgia. I
think combination seeding and external beam radiotherapy is
the way to be treated for all but the most aggressive prostate
cancer. I send my own patients to Radiotherapy Clinics of
Georgia. They are readily available on the Web at www.rcog.net.
If your dad would happen to choose them, I would appreciate the
opportunity of being the urologist involved with his care. You can
find me at www.davidcornellmd.com. Please don't hesitate to
contact me if I may be helpful to you. Prostate cancer is a major
interest of mine. i have personally changed my philososphy from
that of being very keen on radical prostatectomy to being a big
believer in combination seeds plus external beam.
I hope this helps.
Sincerely,

My dad was diagnosed with prosate cancer a few months ago. He was
scheduled for surgery this monday. He went to the doctor a few days
ago and the doctor said he changed his mind and thinks the seed
radiation would be the best option for my dad. I do not know much
about this treatment. All the research I did was about the surgery.
Any info would be great. Thanks!

I am a very fit 66 year old frequently mistaken as being about 55
years old. I have an enlarged but otherwise healthy prostate. I find
that every bowel movement produces about 2 drops of prostatic fluid.
Does anyone else have that experience.

What surgery method? Brain surgery is sometimes performed with an electron
accelerator. These have changed over the years from football field size to
3 story building size to a regular large piece of radiology equipment. But
they are very expensive, hence delicate situations like brain surgery have
been their main use that I know of.

I learned not long ago that I have BPH, and after I've tried FloMax
with little success, my doctor has suggested I get the Thermatrx
procedure. I have several questions about it, and I'd definitely
appreciate it if anyone could give me advice on any of them:
(1) Are there good independent sources of information on Thermatrx
(e.g., peer-reviewed articles in medical journals, etc., or materials
for laypeople) that you could suggest?
(2) I understand that Thermatrx is a fairly recently developed
procedure. Is there any good info on its midterm or long-term effects?
(3) Is there any good info on its side effects, if any?
(4) Generally, are there any good reliable (and, for a layperson,
easily understandable) sources of info on BPH and its treatments?
(5) Has anyone had the Thermatrx treatment or know anyone who has?
What has been your experience?
Thanks!!
After 2 zolodex shots, my PSA dropped to 0.4. I expect another shot
next month and will discuss external radiation atnthat time.
I have info from a group in Atlanta area that claims they can remove
the prostate without surgery!!
I know this sounds weird, but I read several years ago, on a kooky
internet site, that regularly massaging the prostate helps to keep it
healthy and the PSA count low. So, we started massaging my prostratea
a couple of years ago, about once a week. The massage feels great -
the orgasams are very intense. I ejaculate more now at 50 years old
than I did when I was 30, and my PSA count has contined to stay below
1.0. It's still 0.76. I attribute the low count to these massages.
Yes, I know doctors say there is nothing to this, but I think it
works. PSA counts in asian countries where prostate massages are
practiced is still on average quite low. And apparently, their rate
of prostitis is low, too. So, it may work.
Any opinions?
16 months ago my PSA was 5.0. Sonogram showed nothing. Had a Biopsy
and found a small cancer. I opted for the Brachi Therapy ( seed
implants ). 6 months ago my PSA had dropped to 1.1. Jus had my 16
month check-up and my PSA is now .7. I think it is well under
control. Hope this will help someone in making a decision.
Charlie
What stage is your cancer? What is your PSA? I had surgery, radiation
and many different tests..For me the only thing that stopped the PSA
from going up, which I think is directly related to cancer
growth/spread,is the hormone shots(every three months, combined with
a "casodex" pill every day.Two years after my surgery the PSA started
up from a low of .05 up to .5 then 33 radiation treatments and the
PSA continued to rise..We decided to wait until cancer showed up on
the CAT scan or the bone scans. Then when it did show up on the CAT
scan PSA was 51 and we started "Zoladex shots and casodex pills. Now
the PSA is 0.33...I hope this info is of help to you...Good luck
Can spots that appear on the skin and go away. Does anyone know of
a good site to export this?
I get dark spots on my arms that go away in about a week or two. My
last one was spaller, 3/8 inch, but was irregular in shape, like
four spots, and black.
Mark
Thanks for the replay. I hope you are right. It's been

Hi Charlie:
The radiation damages the glands which make up the prostate
and are responsible for at least 90% of the normal ejaculate
volume. This is a typical story after seeding. It usually gets
somewhat better after 6 to 12 months.

was 1.5. My question is, When I ejaculate, my ejaculate fluid is juct
thin and clear, not white and thick like it used to be. Anyone have
