Re: [Prostate Health] imediate biopsy ordered.--tips for after 6 ne   Message List

Why is it necessary to have a biopsy? Is his PSA
elevated more than men in his age group? Difficulty
urinating can be caused by BPH, an enlarged prostate,
that can be treated without having a biopsy. There are
pills, Flomax, for one, that help with the urination.

I've had two biopsies. I bled for 3 weeks after the
first one. Less bleeding after the 2nd one. That can
depend on how many core samples they take, 6 or 13.

Some have the opinion that if there are cancerous
cells found during a biopsy they may "escape" and
spread by the bleeding. Others believe differently.

First determine in a biopsy is really needed. Factor
is his age and PSA. Have an ultrasound. He may just
need help peeing. And as always get a 2nd opinion.
