PROSTATECTOMY RECOVERY AIDE   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #499 of 1246 |
I'D LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO INTRODUCE MYSELF. For the past ten
years, I've dedicated my career to the field of Gerontology. I
received masters in Gerontology and have worked in Independent
retirement communities, assisted living, and skilled nursing centers
and in adult day care. I've also been a support group leader,
private caregiver and presently oversee the care for several of my
relatives. With a passion for education, I spend a lot of time
educating people OF ALL AGES online. With the permission of the
moderator, I'd like to share my insight with the group. Please feel
free to email me with any questions that you may have.
What is Prostatectomy?
Prostatectomy is the surgical removal of the prostate gland.
What are the medical indications for Prostatectomy?
Prostatectomy may be recommended for:

* Prostate enlargement and blockage (obstruction)
* Inability to completely empty the bladder (urinary retention)
recurrent bleeding from the prostate
* Bladder stones (calculi) with prostate enlargement causing
extremely slow urination
* Increased pressure on the ureters and kidneys
(hydronephrosis) from urinary retention
* Treatment of prostate cancer when the cancer cells have not
yet spread beyond the prostate gland
What types of sexual complications could result from prostatectomy?

Sexual complications resulting from prostatectomy may include:
* difficulty achieving and maintaining an erection
*the absence of ejaculation (although orgasm is generally preserved)
*penile curvature or length loss.
*passing the semen into the bladder instead of out through the
urethra known as retrograde ejaculation
What are the causes of these sexual problems?
The causes of erectile dysfunction after this form of surgery
include nerve injury, artery injury or deterioration in erection
tissue structure and function after surgery.

What is the recommended course of treatment for this type of sexual
dysfunction?
Physician's recommend the early implementation of postoperative
vacuum penis pump therapy which is indicated for sexual dysfunction.
Early use of the prostatectomy recovery aid, a medical grade vacuum
therapy device following radical prostatectomy:
facilitates early sexual intercourse!
offers the opportunity for early patient/partner sexual satisfaction
provides for the maintenance of penile length/girth!
fosters a quicker recovery!
Erections induced after surgery can protect the erection tissue
itself. There is a strong body of opinion that suggests that men
with poor erections after radical prostatectomy should be treated
with vacuum therapy to induce erections increasing the chances of a
man's own erections returning.
With this in mind, Medicare and most Private Insurances may cover
the cost of the prostatectomy recovery aide, a medical grade vacuum
penis pump therapy device.
