It could be immediately after the abortion, or it could be years later - and people find themselves hurting in the aftermath of an abortion. The message people receive from society is that they have no "issue" and they should feel no pain. They are told that they had “a choice”. They are told that they should feel only relived - that in fact, this experience solves a problem. Yet there are millions of people suffering in the aftermath of this experience. They hurt deeply. No matter what society says, they have indeed experienced a terrible loss, and they need to resolve their feelings of pain, loss, grief, and yes, their guilt and their shame, and need to reconcile with God (and perhaps even harder, reconcile with themselves). Because society tells them it's "their choice" to get an abortion, or to have helped someone else get an abortion, many feel that they have no "right" to be feeling sad, no right to grieve, no reason feel anything at all. As a result, many suffer in silence. In fact, it is now becoming recognized that many post-abortive persons are suffering from what has come to be called PAS - Post-abortion Syndrome experience symptoms similar to PTSD - Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
