Thank You! THank YOu!!THANK YOU!! I Know you have added feathers on the
bottom of my climbing boots!!! With everyones help this past week, I
have made my way up the mountain another 138.3 Miles higher. WOW-What a
great week-Keep those feet a walking- I'll Hang on to this mountain
until next Monday-WOW!!!!! Will N' Walk
What a great job and terrific total for the week. Out top walkers were:
Donna 26.3 Miles
Dave 24 Miles
Dan(Dad)15 Miles
We Now have a total of 255.5 Miles for the past two weeks.
Unbelievable!!!
Note from AARP Magazine:
"Walking also strengthens muscles, which tones and shapes your body.
The increased muscle mass boosts your metabolism (Mine Needs Boosting).
This means you burn calories long after you stop moving. And you don't
have to get all of your walking in at once. If you don't have time for
long walks, find pockets of time throughout your day for short jaunts."
But keep those feeting moving-anyway-anywhere you can,Good luck this
next week, Dianne

We Will Walk On!!! Thanks Dan for that great article. I know most of
you have continued to walk and are even pushing yourselves do to that
few extra steps, blocks, or mile. Your BODY THANKS YOU!!!

An article in this months Familycircle Magazine talks about the
Intensity levels of walking. They Are rated 1-5 and I have included
examples of each level of walk from the article. They Are:
Level 1--Leisure walk-(2 Hours)-Take a walk in the woods, along the
beach with your family or friends.

Level 2-(30 Minutes)Attempt large steps with large arm swings. Keep
arms straight and extend them as far forward and backward as you can.

Level 3-(60 minutes) Take yourself to a new location(like the beach,
nature trail, or local shelter and walk dogs-I added this one)and do
moderate paced walk, enjoying the scenery and maybe a new found friend
as you go.

Level 4-Heel-Toe Walk-(20 Minutes) Focus on Placing your heel on the
ground and pushing off with your toes as you walk-(Sounds like
something I have to do everytime I get out and walk!)

Level 5-Reverse Walk-(15 Minutes)-Head for a steep hill or big set of
stairs and walk up it backward-Walk down facing forward-(have You tried
this one-it is tough- I am still working on walking forward at a
pretty good Pace.)

We have a new team mascot and it's name is Will N' Walk and its main
job is as a mountain climber. Watch for our mascot on your nearest
monitor very soon.

Keep those feet moving any way you can and help Will N' Walk & the
group climb up the mountain!!!!

Hi,
Came across a great article today, thought I would share it with the
group.

http://www.realage.com/ct/shape-up-slim-down/workouts/tip/6617

My walking is doing better this week. Upped my individual sessions to
2 miles, and day 2, I thought death was imminent. Thankfully I made it
through that day, and The next day was fantastic!!!! Now this week so
far I have equalled by total from last week with still 3 days to go.

Hope all is well with your walking goals. Enjoy the article.

Dan

These feet were made for walking and that is Just what we DID!!!!We had
a group total of 117.2 Miles walked this Past week. Our top 3 walkers
were Donna-walking 26 Miles, Dave walking 23 Miles, and Michelle
walking 12 Miles. WHAT A FANTASTIC WEEK!!! Donna was out walking and
shopping and found a great sign which tells it like it is. "A Journey
of a 1000 Miles starts with just 1 step." Could it say it any clearer
than that?
An article I spotted recently talks about Choosing distance over
speed. "It is better to walk at a steady pace than walk quickly and
have to quit early. Warm up slowly-Walk the first few minutes at an
easy pace to get your body prepared. If You start too brisk, you risk
burning only the immediate sugar supply in your body rather than the
stored fat" I think some of my has been stored for a long time. The
Article mentioned above comes from the AARP magazine and internet
website. You don't have to be old to check it out. There is a lot of
great information. Thanks again to everyone and hope you have already
started for the next week--KEEP THOSE FEET MOVING AND GOOD LUCK!!!!

I know everyone has been out walking from the phone calls and emails
I have received. In chatting with one of our walkers she mentioned
about her various walks and miles she had finished so far. She was
concerned about walking around twilight-so she counted out the steps
around the perimeter of her chain-linked back yard and started to
walk. She walked several times around the yard and by this time the
dog quit and went and layed in the garage. She noticed that the older
neighbor next door kept peeking out the window at her trying to
figure what she was doing. After about the 15th time of walking her
laps-he came out and ask her what she was doing? She explained about
the walking challenge and he looked at her and said,"Oh-I thought
your husband did not let you out of the back yard". TRUE STORY-She
continues to walk her laps!
Looking at a websight I found an interesting article:It was titled
DOWNSIZE ME: Walk to burn FAT-GET STARTED-Article states, "Turn on
the TV and You're bound to see an ad for a miracle weight loss or
lose those inches gimmick. With all the pills and contraptions , it
seeems hard to know what will help you lose the weight or inches
safely. But the answer really is simple: To rid yourself of those
unwanted inches or pounds all you need is your own legs, some
comfortable shoes, and a little open space." Make yourself take time
to get out and walk. You will feel more enegized and maybe it will
even improve you mood. Have a great weekend and get a few miles
behind you-Thanks again for being one of our walkers!!!!

directions to his local shelter. They are always looking for volunteers.
I hope everyone is interested in the new challenge-Just let me know by
Monday Aug, 4th if you will be joining us. It will be fun and healthy
besides. I will have more information forth coming-Have a great day!!!

Are There any walkers out there? Just got back from the Doctors and
things look great-but she said I need to walk More. As we all know we
have had much success with out last challenges and it is fun to do
things as a group.
I would like to start another challege. Starting Monday August 4th keep
track of your miles while walking to just about anywhere! Just list you
mileage for each week on this website. No penalty to the team if you
don't walk. For twelve weeks I will keep track of the whole groups
mileage. Our last calculation walk total will be October 27th. I hope
that we can combine the totals and hit a 1000 miles target for the 12
weeks. It is all possible.
You can either pledge a total amount for the 12 week total or pledge an
amount per mile,(example .05 mile for each mile walked). At The end,
there will be Gift cards given out to the top three walkers(total Miles
Walked). As it is Olympic time (thanks Dawn) there wil be 3 ribbons
also awarded to those winning walkers. Of Course-Gold, Silver & Bronze.
The rest of the money collected will be used to help Dan with his
Flyers for his local shelter. If you have not seen or heard about them-
Just check the file area. They are terrific and will certainly aid in
getting the animals adopted. He has also come up with a volunteer
information flyer. If you have any extra time just ask Dan for
directions to his local shelter. They are always looking for volunteers.
I hope everyone is interested in the new challenge-Just let me know by

Hey Dan,
I didn’t get the attachment. Mark and I had a great time last night! I hope Laura is feeling better. See you Saturday. Here’s a link with a list of some of the Curves in the Bay Area – we can work up a pitch for them if you want.

Looking back at the last month, I see that I decided that now that
the challenge was over, I ate all of the things that I had prevented
myself from eating, as they were not good for me. Unfortunately when
you do this 5 or 6 times a week, it will add up to way too many
calories and the pounds creeping back on. I also found that my
exercise dropped to almost nothing.....

I hope you were not like me.

Back on the plan for me. Focus on losing some weight and being
healthy! I found an interesting article in the news the other day.
It said that researchers are now finding that people trying to lose
weight should try and reach 5 hours a week of exercise. I know I
have not been doing that.... Gotta get back on it.

By the way, we will have our first official advertising for the
group. I have developed a brochure for my local shelter and am
having some printed. My idea is to distribute them in my
neighborhood to increase awareness as many people do not even know
the shelter exists. I have attached a copy for reference.

Keep up the good work. Let me know if you have time for a walk?

This was really an awesome day. It was very rewarding to see the quantity of food and litter we were able to donate. My thanks to Dan for his enthusiasm, hard work, and commitment to our animal friends.

Hello Everyone,

What a fun experience we had this weekend. P4P friend Matt showed up
and Pet Food Max and Dan, Laura and Matt loaded up the truck and car
and headed to the shelter.

The final total was 33 bags of litter and 17 cases of food donated.
This is enough litter and canned food to feed the kittens they have for
about a month.

I have attached pictures in the Photos section for you to see. Brigid
was very appreciative.

Thanks to everyone who made this a reality.

Looking forward to our next walk and food donation. If you are trying
to lose weight, keep up the good work.

Dan

So, I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a wonderful pet
supply store that worked with me on our latest Fund Raiser.

In San Jose, CA there is a Family run store called Pet Food Max. They
are on the corner of Santa Teresa and Blossom Hill.

http://www.petfoodmax.com

Art is the GM there, and he was generous enough to supply the food and
litter that we purchased for our latest fund raise at only slightly
over cost. Due to his generosity, we were able to buy several more
bags of litter and several more cases of food than we would have been
able to buy otherwise.

If you live in San Jose, please consider visiting them, as they were
very kind to assist us in our endeavors.

Hello to all,

Well, the collection is just about finished for our latest fund
raiser, and what a HUGE success it was. Through our efforts, we were
able to raise $750 to buy food for our local shelter. I have contacted
Brigid at the San Martin Animal Shelter, and she was delighted to
accept the donations. According to her, they were in dire need of
Canned food (They use Innovo EVO) and Litter (Yesterday's News) for
their Cat room. ( They currently have 81 Cats/kittens available for
adoption.) Due to the fund raiser we were able to buy enough food and
litter to supply their cat efforts for an entire month!!!!!!!!!

This Saturday we will be delivering over 1100 pounds of food and
litter to the shelter, and if you have some spare time, I could really
use your help. Basically, I have a friend with a truck and we just
need to pick up the food/litter and then deliver it to the shelter and
unload wherever Brigid needs it. I am thinking that we will pick up
the food and litter around Noon, and then deliver it around 1:00pm,
but I need to check with the Shelter to be sure.

Thanks to everyone who donated, and to those who lost weight in
support of this effort. I will try and get some photos on Saturday and
post them here to the group.

Keep up the good work.

Who is up for a walk. The weather is beautiful. If we start fairly
early, we can be done before it gets too hot. Let me know if you are
interested and then we can pick the location.

I am thinking that either this weekend or next would be really fun.

Let me know,
Dan
