Hi,
Our next San Jose shelter visit has been scheduled. We will be going to the San Martin Animal Shelter in San Martin on Saturday December 15th at 2:00pm. Kathy from F.O.S.M.A.S will be joining us. Please see her email below with details regarding what the shelter needs.
Whether you have lost weight or not, this will be a great experience, so please come and join us. A 10 or 20 pound bag of food is not too expensive and as you can see, they can really use it.
I will be scheduling a Petco run a few days before and will post to the board in case anyone wants to join me in preparing for Saturday.
Hope to see you there, please let me know if you can attend, and I can coordinate transportation.
Dan

Hi Dan,
I met with Fletcher Dobbs, the Program Manager at the shelter yesterday. Saturday 12/15 is good. They are usually very busy when they first open at noon, so could we please schedule this for about 2 PM or so?
They are absolutely desperate for dog food - kibble, any kind, as long as it is not the worst generic brand from a "big box" store or supermarket, please. So your donation will be to the San Martin Animal Shelter, not to FOSMAS. I'm not sure if your donations to the SMAS, a Santa Clara County agency, will be tax-deductible or not, but we can ask them for tax receipts for you when you are there.
I asked him to rate the other things on the list, and he said "#1 dog food, #2 dog food, #3 dog food..."
If you could please ask your group to clean out their linen closets and donate old towels, they are really in need of those too. Washcloths are great for newborns and pre-weans; hand towels and dish towles are a perfect size for kittens, and bath towels are for the older/bigger dogs and cats. When they really get desperate, I go to the Dollar Store and buy baby blankets (3 for $1). They do SO much laundry there, you can just imagine. And every load is heavily bleached, so the used towels don't last very long.
Hopefully you will be able to meet Fletcher Dobbs, maybe the shelter vet, and a vet tech on 12/15. We should also be able to spend some time in the adoptable cat room - but if they are really, really busy and too crowded there, we can just head over to my hosue (5 miles south in Gilroy) and hang out with my 6 foster kitties. We do not have a permanent location for all of our fosters, like Town Cats does - all of our fosters are in our homes; or at our one permanent adoption center at PetSmart Milpitas.
Thanks again to you, your terrific Pounds for Pounds idea, and your group. I look forward to meeting you on Saturday 12/15.
Regards,
Kathy Hodgdon
