Description

The Children and Grandchildren of Polio Survivors can suffer problems e.g. fatigue and muscle weakness, similar to Post Polio Syndrome. If you have ruled out other medical conditions that could be the cause, consider the following 3 possibilities:
1. If the Child was alive at the time the Mother caught Polio, the Child may have had an undiagnosed case of Polio.
2. If the Mother was pregnant at the time she caught Polio, the Child may have caught Polio (YES it is possible!)
3. If the Child was born after the Mother or Father caught Polio and in the case of Grandchildren, nutritional deficiencies that later cause Post Polio Syndrome in the Polio Sufferer may be passed on at the time of conception to the Child or Grandchild.

Please use this forum to contribute your story or ask questions. To begin we have copied some interesting emails we have been sent.

This group was started by the Post Polio Network of Western Australia in response to items on our website www.upnaway.com/~poliowa - please feel free to use any information you find there or to contact us directly at poliowa@upnaway.com.
