Hi friends and collegues,
I am bringing this issue for discussion and would like your opinions.
The PNG Medical Journal has been struggling to be published regularly
for the last maybe 5-10 years. The main reason always has been
related to funding.
I for one has noticed that not many PNG medical professionals
subsribe to the journals. I think it is only those in academia and
research institutions and maybe a few overseas researchers.
How can subsribtion be increased? I think that may be a way to solve
the funding issue.
I think the PNG Medical Journal needs a complete overhaul to make
make it more accessable to increase its subsribtion rates. The cover
also needs a face lift. Maybe introduce new features (eg profiles,
case reports,) to attract non-researchers or non-medical
group/persons to subscribe eg students, RMOs, clinicials who are not
research inclined. Publish articles from other workers in SI, Fiji,
Vanuatu and other Pacific Island countries regularly so that the
journal covers issues not only in PNG but also common in other
Pacific Island coutries.
What are your thoughts?
