Food for Life.

G’Day.

The following Web site has some useful background info ( causes, pathology, medications and so on ).

http://www.lef.org

The following Web page ( four pages actually ) at that site contains a useful summary on food dos and donts.

http://www.lef.org/protocols/prtcl-088.shtml

Here is what it said about food.

>>>>>>>>>>

Dietary recommendations will now be offered as examples of an ideal diet and to demonstrate a goal to seek. Each patient must decide how fast and how many elements of the diet to use. Parkinson's patients should make all dietary changes slowly. It takes time to accept and enjoy new foods. An improved diet may initially cause unpleasant healing reactions (intestinal gas or other digestive symptoms as new flora develop in the gut; detoxification actions resulting from die-off of undesirable intestinal flora). After an initial 2-week period, the body usually adjusts, and new "good" bacteria take over the gut.

Use unsprayed (pesticides, chemicals) fruit and vegetables; purified water; and unprocessed foods with no added chemicals. Maximize the amount of fresh and raw food, including plenty of bananas and other fruits, freshly ground linseed (refrigerate or freeze), sprouted seeds, and fresh vegetable juices. Eat fruit and drink juices in small, spaced-out amounts to avoid a strong rise in blood sugar or insulin levels. Try raw egg yolk (free range) in salad dressings, using the white rarely. Use unheated extra-virgin olive oil, salt, and herbs for flavoring. Use spices with care.

Organic chicken and low-mercury fish and other seafood are fine. Prepare salads with unflavored gelatin often. Even better, prepare foods with broth from boiled fish heads and skins or from chicken bones. Simmer for several hours in a nonmetal pot, adding some vinegar, and refrigerate or freeze as cubes. Use with meals. Protein can interfere with the absorption of levodopa. Therefore, only have a protein meal in the evening after taking the final dose of levodopa.

Red beets and their tops and also green beans, carrots, turnips, spinach, and purple onions are of special benefit. Drink the water left over from cooking vegetables for its high content of nutrients. If you can only obtain commercial vegetables, use mainly root vegetables and pumpkin. Root vegetables are sprayed less than leafy vegetables and tomatoes. Instead of commercial leafy vegetables, use green, sprouted seeds and wheat or barley grass, either juiced or cut finely, in salads. Buckwheat or sunflower salads may be grown in boxes and cut when 2-4 inches high.

Eat fruit between meals. Also have fruit meals and fruit days. The purple pigment of black and purple grapes, blackberries, and blueberries is a strong antioxidant. Once a month, try a cleansing period of 1-7 days.

Start with eating apples (peel or scrub the skin of sprayed apples) for 1 day; the next time, try 2 or 3 days. Also try other fruits or vegetable juice. If you have low blood pressure, eat less fruit and neutralize fruit acids with dolomite powder. Take 1 tbsp of olive oil at bedtime on each cleansing day to stimulate the liver. When reintroducing other foods, make a special effort to observe their effect to detect any food allergies and chemical sensitivities.

Repopulate your intestines with probiotic bacteria. For several months, take high-potency dairy-free cultures of acidophilus and bifidobacteria before meals.

Initially, avoid red meat; cow's milk and cheese; wheat and gluten products; margarine, fats, fried foods, and commercial polyunsaturated oils (especially canola oil); sweetened foods, aspartame, and other artificial sweeteners; processed food with added chemicals (especially with any kind of flavor enhancer); all old or aged protein; alcohol (except for red wine); tobacco; chlorinated and fluoridated water; and microwaved foods.

After improvement, these products should continue to be minimized.

An increased intake of fresh fruit, vegetables, and magnesium may be sufficient to overcome constipation that is commonly present, producing at least one easy bowel movement daily. However, if information concerning additional recommendations for the treatment of constipation is required, refer to the protocol on Constipation.
