The problem with finding a "good" doctor, how do you know until you have gone to him for a while and tried his suggestions?  Our Neuros both seemed like such nice guys and were so sure of their suggestions.   Our Gastrologist suggested a drug that was supposed to be just for women for my husband, and then the FDA pulled it from the market because of it's bad side effects. He kept saying the answer to John's constipation was fiber and more fiber.  I have since read that 80% of people with slow digestion times aren't helped with lots of fiber. How come he didn't know that.  He was the one that gave him the transit time tests, twice.   Our Urologist put my husband on a drug (that he didn't need) that caused him to have monthly bladder infections, so then he put him on a daily antibiotic drug forever!.  He seemed like a nice guy and was very sure of himself.  When I told him the Physician's Desk Refference said that his drug could cause bladder infections he was livid.  "Of course it can't.  Take him off it if you want."  We did and the bladder infections quit.

Of course we need doctors.  They are needed to diagnose our illnesses and order the drugs we do need.  They are good for surgeries we have to have, for having babies, and to fix accidents.  I am very thankful for them, but they only know what they have been taught in school or their journals they might read.  Both the schools and journals are biased about what they teach and print.  They are not eager to print or teach what nutrition can do for you, esp when it can do better than the drugs they push that are paying for nice treats for the doctors, and heavily advertising in the journals.  Generally they don't know about much of the alternative medicine treatments.  Chiropractic now seems to be accepted, but it didn't used to be.  We had an employee that threw up every morning for 12 years!  He went to doctors, was poked and proded and given anti nausia pills that didn't work very well.  His girlfriend finely got tired of that and took him to a holistic doctor.  First visit they took him off wheat and dairy.  That stopped the throwing up right there.  No drugs, just watch what you eat.  When he forgets there is breading in the shrimp he will throw up.
It was as simple as changing his diet.

My son's girlfriend has a friend with PD that was greatly helped by taking a class using the Feldenkraise method to teach him better ways to move.  He can now turn over in bed and get around quite well. He swears by it.  I've read books by health gurus that have had great results with PD patients that were just trying to improve their health, the PD improved too.  No drugs with any of this and no surgeries.

When John was first diagnosed with PD, they were talking about Palodotomies, then no, use thalodotomies,  Those poor people had parts of thier brains damaged and the improvement didn't last.  They don't do those any more.  Now it's DBS.  Is that the answer or will that go out like the others did?

You all have computers.  Look up the drugs and side effects before you take something the doctors want you to try.  A lot of the side effects are really bad.  Some even have attorneys advertising to sue for you on the page where they give informatin about those drugs.  Watch TV and see the drug ads, many of there spend much more time telling you about the terrible side effects you might get than they do the benefit of their drug!  It is truly amazing that we would go out and play Russian Rouilet with their drugs hoping that we might not get dead.  Sort of like playing the lottery.  Really, watch the drug ads.

You probably read about naturopatic Zicam that helped stop colds.  They took it from the market because 133 people thought they lost their sense of smell from using it.  That was over 13 year period. 10 people a year!  But that was enought to raise a stink about it.  But thousands of people died from taking Vioxx, and it took years for the FDA to pull it.  Gardisil, the new drug for young girls has killed 60 some healthy young girls to stop a chance that they might get 4 of the 18 herpie viruses that might cause cervical cancer.  They still need to do cancer screenings as it only works on 4 of the 18 viruses.  (Now a lot of these kids think they can't get pregnant or any sexually treated diseases because they had the shots.)  It has to be repeated in 5 years, is very expensive and painful.  Some girls pass out and end up in the hospital, it has been connected to getting epilepsy,   And what happens in the future to these girls?  They don't know.  They haven't had time to do long term studies.  My Best Pills Worst Pills book says don't take anything that hasn't been on the market for at least 7 years to see what the long term results are.

The new swine flu vaccine has only been tested for 13 weeks!   And even then the viruses may have mutated so it might not work.

What to do?  Study for yourself, be healthy and be careful.
Paula
