Hello Laurie and welcome. You' ve come to the right place for support and
helpfull info. My name is Missie. I'v e had four placental abruptions. And two
miscarriages. So, trying to get pregnant again is very scary. My daughter,
abrupted at 21 wks, bleeding the whole pg., was born by emergency c/s. When they
got her out , she was laying on a bloodclot the size of a cantalope or large
grapefruit. The doctor said they had never seen anything like it before. So, I
feel your anxiety about being pg again. I wish you the best of luck. And we'll
be here if you need us.

Hi-My name is Laurie, and I have 5 beautiful kids 2.5 to 13. I have
had 2 pregnancies dealing with abruptions of varying degrees. Two
you could see well on the sonogram as a curl of the edge of the
placenta. The last, #5, was hidden, although I did have two serious
bleeds during the pregnancy. At 38.5 weeks, I began to fully
abrupt. Thankfully it took several days, as I did not catch on
immediately. Nausea, dizziness, just feeling horrible. Then my
water broke and was tinged pink. Midwife and husband and I stayed
home until it was obvious that heart tones were a little fast, and
the contractions had just not done anything(I didn't know at the time
that this is a sign of abruption if you have other signs). Had a c-
sec after a quick trip to the hosp., baby had IUGR from lack of blood
flow, the outer edge of the placenta was the only part still
functioning-I saw it and the entire center was white/calcified. Blood
clot bigger than baby. Mary is doing great-she is 2.5 now. I don't
want to seem greedy but I think I might be expecting and am so
excited and scared. It would be my first hosp. birth, except the
transport, but more important I realize the chance that I have of
even carrying this baby after so many abruptions is very slim. Some
things I have noticed. Like clockwork, I have a bleed at 14.5
weeks. It is what the Dr cannot see after this episode that scares
me. If we can see it, it is usually not that bad. With one, my
water broke fully and resealed at 29 weeks, much to the hospital
staff's confusion. I learned then that bleeding can weaken the
amniotic sack. Anyway, I guess I am just rambling and am looking
forward to fellowship. Thanks, Laurie
