Here is my two cents worth. I am concerned about you
having the piriformis removed. You have lived your
entire life with the nerve running through the muscle.
And it did not give you an problem till the accident
&/or childbirth. That suggests to me the problem is
not your anatomy but rather changes in your pelvis
mechanics & function brought about by the accident
&/or childbirth. Something is forcing the muscle to
spasm & clamp down on the nerve. Ligament damage from
childbirth alone could explain your symptoms. Neuros,
physical med doctors & doctors in general are
completely unaware of these problems. And they are
unable to diagnosis them with their fancy, expensive
tests because these are soft tissue injuries.
Before any surgery, I encourage you to be evaluated by
a PT who specializes in pelvis mechanics &/or pelvis
floor problems. Forget the diagnosis of Piriformis
Syndrome (it is usually wrongly applied to
non-runners) and look for what is happening in your
gait & pelvis mechanics that is causing the piriformis
to spasm. Mary
