You know, each case is so individual, I'm not sure
there is a simple answer. It just depends on what you
can tolerate - number of hours standing or sitting.
And a bigger unknown is "will you be able to continue
standing or sitting for 8 hours? or will it have an
acclumative effect leading to more pain & decreased
ability to stand or sit?"
Here are a couple of additional things to consider. If
you are standing for long periods, you tend to put
more weight on one leg/hip than the other which can
aggravate the piriformis situation. Is it possible to
find a job that combines standing, walking & sitting,
so you are not stuck in a stressful position all day?
Avoid jobs that involve "bending & twisting" because
that will make the pitriformis worst.
Have you tried special cushioning insoles for your
feet? I think there are over the counter products for
working on hard surfaces. Have you tried special
cushions like Tush-cush for sitting ?
Sorry, that's all the ideas I can offer. Good luck
finding the happy median & a new job. Mary
