"How did you get better with pelvic floor
dysfunction?" If you reduce the spasm & retrain to the
Pelvic Floor muscles to function more normally, your
pelvis mechanics will be more normal. All that
translates into less pain & more function.

"Did you have exercises to do?  What were they?"

Yes. They are isometric exercises for the pelvic floor
muscles. Everyone has heard of the Kegel exercises.
But that is primarily for treating incontinece & to
increase orgasm. Before I found a specialized
therapist, I found doing the Kegel exercise increased
the Piriformis pain, because it increased the
imbalance in my pelvic floor muscles. So don't do the
Kegels on your own. You really need a biofeedback
evaluation using the two sensors I talked about
previously. Then the therapist can customize treatment
to whatever problem areas you have.

Treatment usually consists of biofeedback & some kind
of manual therapy. There isn't one type of manual
therapy used by all therapists. It all depends on what
they have been trained in. So unfortunately, you may
have to try another therapist until you find one using
techniques that work for you. There is massage,
trigger point work & myofascial release therapy. There
is internal & external work.

My therapist uses an extremely gentle method called
Viseral Manipulation, which is a very focused form of
myofascial release therapy. It takes 5 years to learn
the technique & there are many not so practiced
practitioners out there. And she may be one of the few
Pelvic Floor therapists in the country that use it.

My biggest complaint is my therapist will only do it
once month. I think I would make much faster progress,
if I could treated more frequently.

"How much does it cost?"

I think the costs are about the same as a physical
therapy session. My hourlong session costs $283.25. It
is an approved charge covered by Medicare, if you have
Medicare. And the initial evaluation session costs
more.

However, it is possibly, go could go to a PT twice a
week for 6-8 weeks, like regular PT.
