Has anyone NOT be given muscle relaxants to control
the piriformis syndrome pain? If so, you really should
try them.
Reviewing this message board, I found people have
reported getting relief with either Soma or Xanax. I
find Soma works better for me. Xanax is in the Valium
family & is generally given for anxiety. But it is
also a muscle relaxant.
Stay away from Flexeril. It is an older
anti-depressant-like drug with muscle relaxing
qualities, and it is loaded with side effects.
If your doctor is reluctant, show him the journal
article “Treatment of Low Back Pain: Closing the Gap
between Research & Practice”. It states, "Fact is that
only few commonly used treatments for acute low back
pain are supported by strong evidence: advice to stay
active, NSAIDs and muscle relaxants.”
