Thanks Sy, for letting us know about your progress. It points out the importance of having an MRI to rule out disk problems or stenosis as the cause of the pain. Yours was an unusual case, in that doctors didn't do the MRI before diagnosing you with Piriformis Syndrome.
Today, I heard from Lucy, the bellydancer, who has left the group. She discovered through physical therapy that after multiple abdomenal surgeries she had effectively stopped using my lower abs to support my core, relying instead entirely on her back/glutes/piriformis thus causing the piriformis pain. Through various exercises, acupuncture, and work on a gyrotonic machine, she is now pain-free. Hooray for Lucy and her physical
therapist!
I'll add the PT's name to our list of "Recommended Healthcare Professionals" soon.
Joyce - Hope you are feeling better by the time you read this. What did the doctor find? And another member wants to know if the surgeon detached the muscle or placed a sleeve around the nerve? Best wishes, Mary
