Hi folks, I'm a new member here on ths list. I have Piriformis
syndrome and it only took 30 years to get a proper diagnosis and
treatment that actually works! Thank the Gods I never agreed to any
surgery.
Having pain that does not respond to anything thrown at it, is no way
to live. I finally had a Sports medicine doctor refer me to a
chiropractor who does Myofasial release. Good treatment - gave some
degree of temporary relief. The chiropractor refered me back to the
Sports medicine doctor who sent me for an MRI. Seeing some deep
imflamation, but nothing terrible the two docs actually Talked to
each other! and agreed I have Piriformis syndrome. What would they do
about it, since nothing has worked? They tried me on a medication
called Lyrica. It is for nerve pain and is generally given to people
with limb extremity pain and folks with nerve pain caused by
Shingles. It is also given for adult onset seizures. Is this a heavy
duty medication? yes and no. Does it work -OMG Yes! I have 99% days
with no pain - I mean 0.000 on a scale of 1-10. It is amazing. Both
me legs feel the same. No hypersensitivity, no pain, no tingling -
just normal! and like I said this has been 30 years coming and I am
only 42!
So yeah the medication has some side effects. Like you cannot stop
taking it without withdrawal - but it is Not a narcotic. I am not in
an altered state. I have gained a bit of weight - this might just be
cause I feel so much better that I have a better appetite though!
My quality of life is soooo much better that I joined this group
just to tell you all about it. Should you run out and ask for the
medication? Honestly - yes.
Karen T.
