Re: [Piriformis syndrome] re: Referral to a Doctor

I believe Dr Fuller is near me... Santa Monica, right? Fairly close anyhow. I
wrote to Dr Loren Fishman (Author Relief is in the Stretch) and he mentioned Dr
Aaron Fuller of Cedars Sinai.

Dr Fishman mentions three approaches. Stretching (yoga, see the book), Botox,
and surgery. Seems like that should be the order of approach. If the yoga
poses he suggests for it help and you're cured, end there... else go on to
Botox. If you Botox yer Butt and it works, it will wear off in a few months.
You have to decide if you're gonna keep doing that, or if it's then a good move
to go ahead and have the muscle surgically severed. As I understand it, Dr
Fuller does do the surgery, but may not do the Botox. According to his site
(http://www.nervemed.com/injections-sp.html) it seems he has other injection
types.

He uses an MRI to get the injection just right. Sounds excellent... but also
sounds expensive - so for those of us who cannot pay the difference between what
our lousy insurance pays and what he would want, plus mri, maybe at cedars...
ouch... it could be out of reach. For me, I also lose moeny every hour I am not
at work, as I am a contract only worker. All in all, makes it a bit expensive
just to have the consultation... I'm still working with the yoga for now.

If anyone does try him out, please do share!

Hi Eve. Sorry, I am not aware of anyone in the Bay
area. Perhaps someone else in the group can recommend
a doctor.

I checked with a member who went to a doctor/professor
at UCSF. He had "nothing good to say about the
clinical practices up at UCSF. HUGE WAIT TIME TO SEE A
DOCTOR AND THE RUN AROUND once you get there. I have
waited 4 months for a check up visit with the spine
center." Read Message #1196 for more info about his
experience. Ultimately, the "test" injection only gave
him more permanent pain and he never got the P.S.
surgery. (I believe the cause of his P.S. was L-5/S1
surgery.)

Dr. Filler's name is frequently mentioned here because
he devised a minimally invasive outpatient surgery for
P.S. and has published about it. But, as far as I
know, no one here has actually has been treated by
him. That is because people end up going to doctors in
their local area and most of us don't live in
California.

In 2005, someone else had called Filler's clinic.
There was a three month waiting list to get an
appointment with him. Don't know if that is still true
today. We have had so many inquiries about Dr. Filler,
I wish we had some first hand information about him
and his technique .

One of the problems with this group, is we seem to be
a "drop in" point for people on their P.S. journey.
Then they to disappear without ever telling us if they
had the surgery or something else, if it worked, or
what.

So if you see Dr. Filler, PLEASE, PLEASE tell us your
experiences, so other people can benefit for your
knowledge.

It would be great to have a member who actually had
the procedure & if it as successful as his statistics
claim. Please stay in touch. Thanks, Mary
