Hello Joyce.I had a long, interesting conversation
with my PT about Botox & PS Surgery yesterday. It is
going to take a long time for me to type up the
information. But I wanted to get you some information
as soon as possible.
Of course, my PT can't comment on your particular
situation. But in terms of a general discussion of
Botox vs. PS surgery, her attitude was "try the Botox
first, because if it fails, at least there isn't any
permanent damage. If one does the surgery and it
fails, you are stuck."
She described what conditions would be necessary for
the Botox to alter the underlying PS condition rather
than just give pain relief while the muscle is
paralyzed.
But it will take me a while to get that typed up. I'm
in the midst of doing a number of things at the
website. So keep checking for new messages as I put up
more information.
Hang in there! I hope I can find the kind of
information that will help you. Best, Mary
P.S. I just came across Message #131 where the founder
of this group wrote "My pain dr. said he absolutely
does not recommend surgery for p.s. He said he has
treated too many caseswhere the surgery made the pain
worse". That was in 2001. I don't know if the success
rate has improved.
