Hi All,
My physiotherapist seems to think that my sciatic
nerve is being compressed by the hamstrings at the
back of my leg in the area where the hamstrings attach
to the bone near the same area as the piriformis. I
can sit almost indefinitely if I do not put any
pressure on my right buttock or thigh. I cannot sit in
a chair but if I stretch my leg out sideways on a
couch and keep by buttock off the couch
I can sit for hours.

She thinks she can alleviate the pressure on the nerve
by doing some exercises to "desensitize" the nerve in
that area. As some of you know I had surgery in 2004
in the same area to remove "vein clusters" that were
wrapped around the sciatic nerve. I also recently had
arthroscopic knee surgery to remove a cyst that the
surgeon thought might be pressing on a nerve. That
surgery appears to have been unsuccessful in giving me
any pain relief.
James.
