Re: [Piriformis syndrome] Help / Advice

Most doctors but especially orthopods are terrible at
dealing with this kind of problem. They misdiagnose &
then the PT has to treat the non existent misdiagnosis
& not the real problem.

What were the 4 different PT's treating you for? What
methods did they use?

If nothing is showing up on the tests, then the
problem is most likely a muscle balance problem.
Based on your description, it sounds like your pelvis
is not properly aligned. The SI joint pain is a BIG
indicator of this. Your sacrum &/or illium aren't in
proper position. Depending on the misalignment,
muscles are pulled & contracted to accommodate the
misalignment, but that causes problems elsewhere in
hips & legs.

Have you tried a chiropractor? They have a better
understanding of these things, but they are limited in
what they can do & usually just keep scheduling more
appointments for you.

I, a non-medical person, suggest you try biomechanical
work to get the sacrum back to its normal position to
take the pressure of the nerves& the muscles. I bet
when you went to PT, all you got was
soft tissue work. What you need is SACRAL MOBILIZATION
work. Not all PTs can do that kind of work & even
fewer are good at it.

Seek out a PT who has mastered many manual techniques
- the absolute minimum is being good at myefascial
release therapy. Preferably find a PT who has done
upper level course work in
the technqiues of PTs like Stanley Paris, Ola Grimsby,
or Sharon Weislfish-Giammateo.

I hope this helps. And good luck finding a skilled PT
with enough knowledge to find & treat the problem.
Best wishes, Mary
