Prompted by Betty's question, I wrote daulpmeister and
asked what the long term effects of the PS release
surgery was. His response is quoted below:
She "had her operation in (I think) 2001 or 2002 Cant
remember exactly.
She had total relief from the pain for probably the
1st 5-6 months
post-op.
She did experience blood clot problems in the leg
approx 3-4 weeks
after. Most of that was due to her having a blood
condition which
boils down to her having very "thick" blood. That
ended up being
a pretty scary situation for a while.
After the first 5-6 months, some of the pains and
nerve issues
returned. Today, most if not all of the pain which
radiates down
her right leg have returned. It didnt all come back
at once. It
was returning slowly. The "trigger" spot where if
you touched or
bumped that set off severe pain has moved a bit.
That part is kind
of strange.
She still gets spasms and what she describes as
"growing pains" and
burning sensations. Not all the time. It really
depends on how
active she is and what kind of activity. I would
say that the
severity and frequency of the pain is less, but still
troubling.
She did get a very nice scare on her lower right butt
cheek though.
As far as my opinion of the long term results... Id
say the doctor
either missed something or the piriformis muscle wasnt
the main
problem. We are not sure what to do at this point."
