Hi Dylan,
I will describe what I have experienced.
Piriformis symptoms are usually accompanied by sciatic
nerve pain down the back of the leg.
Most sciatic nerve problems are usually back related.
It can feel like you have been kicked in the butt in
the area of the hip joint. The pain is usually very
localised in one area. Sitting is usually very
painful. Sitting makes your leg go on fire as the
sciatic nerve gets trapped by the piriformis muscle as
it passes through the pelvic notch.
Standing after sitting is also usually very painful as
is climbing stairs. The piriformis muscle rotates the
leg outwards (as in the classic Charlie Chaplin
stance). During hip replacement surgery the piriformis
muscle is cut.
What happens when you sit ?
Please describe your symptoms in detail ?
Have you had an MRI of the hip joint to rule out
arthritis in the joint ?
James.
P.S Where in the U.K are you ?
Ex Brit in Canada here.
