Nilgun - Your last post brought up several interesting
points. First, I am glad you are getting some pain
relief without having to resort to surgery or more
drugs. The combination of an osteopath & dentist is
very unusually in the U.S.. So I think you are very
lucky to have found someone so multi-talented near
you.
I want to point out to everyone that a botox injection
or piriformis surgery may temporarily provide pain
relief but can also cause more problems than you might
think. Without a properly functioning piriformis
muscle, you are forcing the other muscles of the
pelvis to perform "abnormal" tasks to compensate for
doing the work normally performed by the piriformis.
This will only result in more misalignment of the
pelvis and new pains elsewhere.
Therefore, when you say " My left side was totally
tense although my Piriformis is relieved with the
botox injection. My hip was painful when I walked more
than 15 minutes, my left shoulder was frozen and my
knee & ankle all hurt." it could simply be a response
to the botox injection paralyzing the piriformis
muscle.
So while you are getting some relief now, the true
test of the neural therapy will be after the botox has
worn off. The combination of the neural therapy and
manipulation may or may not fix the problem. But
things look promising.
Thank you for the reference to the very interesting
article on the relationship between the misalignment
of the jaw & the pelvis. I found it especially
interesting in light of my own osteopath's experience.
I could see he was literally out of shape. Then at the
next appointment he was straight again. He told me he
saw a dentist specializing in TMJ, who worked with a
PT. The dentist held his head/jaw while the PT cradled
his sacrum. He said it was so painful, he had tears in
his eyes. I don't know if that treatment worked for
him or if he subsequently did something else.
The treatment did not appeal to me. But apparently is
it a developing field.
I have had one appointment with a new PT, who uses a
combination of cranial-sacral therapy, visceral
manipulation & regular PT techniques. It produced much
greater alignment than trigger point therapy and with
less pain. We will see what happens next.
Hope we all find a solution to our pain problems. Mary
