An update on my personal situation :
I didn't need the extra surgery as the two eyes started to work together
again the day before the surgery !
I had a complete check-up a week or 3 ago and everything was OK. The only
thing left was a bit of astigmatism (0.5D) in the treated eye. That's OK for
driving so no need for glasses.
As I was also diagnosed with high eye pressure I asked if I could change
from Cosopt to Alphagan, which was OK for the surgeon. Alphagan worked for
me like a charm : the halos and glare are as good as gone. I do hope it's
effectiveness will stay this for the next few years. With age the pupil size
should decrease, so with a bit of luck there will be no need for the
Alphagan anymore then.

I can verify this since I had my first retinal detachment on July 2
unfortunately. I urgently returned from holiday on Gran Canaria the day
before because I was losing vision in my left eye (sudden floaters, black
curtain coming down). It was '5 to twelve' the surgeon told me and I had
done well to return home. They attached the retina again using
cryocoagulation, a scleral buckle and injected some short-term gas into the
eye. The surgery went well and my complete vision was restored but the sight
from the operated eye is tilted clockwise unfortunately which causes
terrible double vision. I had a checkup this morning and the surgeon said he
will explant the sponge next thursday which will hopefully solve the
problem. If not another surgery will be necessary to correct the eye
muscle(s).
BTW, I had the Visian ICL's implanted last year in August but they did not
touch it. I was assured the Visian lenses had nothing to do with the retinal
detachment and that I would always be at high risk because of the high
myopia (-13 before the ICL's).
