Re: [piolusers] About to get ICLs

Nice work, Kolja!

For now -- before your ICLs go in -- the $64,000 question is: are you
experiencing any visual distortions/artifacts from the YAG Laser Iridotomy
holes? And which kind did he do: 12 o'clock slit or the 1:30 & 10:30 holes?

And on the whole subject of the problems of an eye patch vs. glasses in
between surgeries: is there some reason this interlude has to be one week? Ask
your doc why a healthy 2, 3 or even 4 days for the first ICL-ed eye isn't enough
of a safety margin to go ahead with the second eye. Some people can swing
mini-vacations like that from work (where they'd otherwise stress over seeing at
<<100% effectiveness on the job) a lot easier than 7-8 days away.

For those who do a patch -- and are already presybyopic (i.e., me) -- I wonder
how much 'vaulting' we'll need on reading glasses (still needed for up-close &
computer work) to keep it from bumping into the patch?!?!?! Should be an
interesting period of time.

Not that it matters regarding ICLs (though it might for Lasik touch-ups), but
your statement "Laser-based flap cutting is much more precise and predictable"
suggests that one should read:
http://www.allaboutvision.com/visionsurgery/blade-vs-bladeless.htm

Sorry to be pedantic, but if your blog s/w lets you make corrections:

"... see perfectly without classes or contact lenses ..."
s/b
"... see perfectly without glasses or contact lenses ..."

"... lower the risk will be of suffering from endothelial ingrowth and other
complications."
s/b
"... lower the risk will be of suffering from epithelial ingrowth and other
complications."

Hi all!

I've been a lurker on this list for a while now. Last week I finally
pulled the trigger: I'm about to get my ICLs inserted starting next
week. Left eye on Monday, right eye (my dominant one) on Tuesday the
week after.

First I'd like to thank everyone on this list for all their posts and
insights. Having this resource available really aided me in making my
decision. Thanks guys!

I suspect I'm probably somewhat different from most of the posters
here since I only have medium myopia (-4/-4.25) and very mild
astigmatism (<0.25). Hopefully my experiences with ICLs will be of
interest to those that are looking into alternatives to Lasik even
though they may be eligible for it.

I've recently started a small blog where I will document my ICL
experience. Right now it contains mostly background info explaining
how I got to where I am now and why I chose to go with the Visian
ICLs. But of course I will update it with details of the procedure and
the results:

Hopefully it'll be of interest and help.

Thanks again!
Kolja

Kolja, I took a look at your blog, and I just have one comment. The plan to wear glasses between surgeries may not work. I tried it, and it was impossible;...

Yeah, I had actually been wondering about that. I assumed it would just be weird but not impossible. I guess I'll find out if my relatively low prescription...

That makes sense of course but I was explicitly told not to wear contacts for 1 week before the procedure in each each eye respectively. I forgot to ask why...
