Hi Andy:

Do you know your prescription? My doctor told me the stronger the correction the
more the side effects. I'm scared to have PIOL, though continually considering
it, due to the hazing and ghosting side effects many talk about. I had those
with hard contacts, which made them impossible to wear for me (but glasses are
getting to be impossible now, due to my high correction).

Can you still drive at night? Seems like that would be a huge drawback to this
surgery.

My name is Andy and I had the Visian ICL's implanted in early June.
I'm now 2 months out from surgery and was so glad to find this group
and see that I am not the only person who is having some problems
with the after-effects of this surgery. There are no other sites
I've found with people documenting problems with this surgery, so I
am glad to know I'm not the only person having some difficulties.

As with many of you, I have the ghosting (mostly in the right eye)
and halos at night or in dim lighting. When I spend the day at work
in front of the computer, it seems to be worse, and I also notice
that fluorescent lighting really is not good for me. I think that
improvement is happening, but it is very slow and frustrating. When
I am outside, my vision is great (maybe better than 20/20), but
indoors, at night, and in dimly lit places, I don't do very well at
all.

The frustrating part is that my doctors keep telling me they've never
heard of anyone having these problems with the implants. All the
research I did on this procedure indicated such high success rates,
low dissatisfaction, and that glare and halos were not a problem,
that maybe my expectations were unrealistic. I've had pilocarpine
prescribed to help me with constricting my pupils, but I've had some
negative reactions to this and don't enjoy using it at all.

Overall, I'd say I am 75% satisfied with the results. I can swim,
run, hike, etc with no problems. As long as I am outside, it's great!

Did anyone else know that STAAR Surgical was warned recently by the
FDA? Apparently, they disregarded and didn't report some negative
experiences of patients in the clinical trials for the latest ICL,
and this is now going to cause their toric lens release to be
delayed. I thought this was interesting and wondering if I was sold
something based on incomplete information.

Also, has anyone had their doctor give an explanation for the
ghosting and halos (other than having overly large pupils)? My
doctors seem to not have an idea about what it could be.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. I look forward to hearing from
others.
