There are some simpler organisms , aquatic creatures and early
land creatures that are able to produce a new generation ;
through replication .
They have done so for hundreds of millions of years without
any apparent degradation of their genetic material .
There are also some that reproduce or replicate , depending
on the environmental circumstances .
Humans and many other animals reproduce and consequently expand
the gene pool .
However if there is a severe abnormality in the embryo then a
spontaneous abortion or miscarriage will occur .
This may also be apparent if the genetic material of the embryo
has a high viral load .
Humans , depending upon their environment , tend to experience
a lot of miscarriages . With the advent of modern medicine this
isn't as apparent in most developed countries .
Mostly though , reproduction without miscarriage , happens
very often .
The mechanism that repairs genetic damage , either through
replication or reproduction is surely worth investigating .
As those seeking infertility treatment may have a disruption
to this mechanism a wider base , including healthier
individuals , might be appropriate .
Historically this type of investigation has been inappropriate
and immoral when applied to humans and in some instances animals.

With modern methods the knowledge might be more easily and
ethically obtained , GeneChip analysis , large database , micro-
sampling and worldwide computing are the resources necessary.
More and more these are becoming standard research tools .
Perhaps twenty consenting persons would be required , for non disruptive
analysis .
To summarize :
Replication .
Genetic Repair Mechanism .
Reproduction .
Cell Division
Genetic Repair Mechanism .
Genetic Reprogramming .
Egg / Sperm production .
Both successful for at least one thousand million years .
