If possible I'd advise against contact with
any animal .
The number of diseases thar might be
transmitted is considerable .

If humans fall ill and are hospitalised
they need to worry about superbugs that
are resistant to antibiotic and
antiviral drugs . In part this is due
to the use of antibiotics and antivirals
on a large number of animals .

Personally , I don't have and have never
had an animal as a pet and find that I'm
wary of anyone who has come in contact
with an animal .

Cats might be useful in keeping down
the rat population , however they can ,
in some instances suffer from the
feline equivalent of an immune
deficiency disease .
The avian flu bears a remarkable
likeness to the Spanish Influenza that
killed tens of millions in Europe ,
America and elsewhere .

There's no cure for Hepatitis C ,
the newer strains of Tuberculosis ,
Prion [ mad cow ] disease ; Malaria .

Whenever humans have colonised
new territory they've brought along
pests that have upset the ecological
balance ; most often in disastarous
ways .
NASA may be aware of this and
recognise the need to insure that
their space probes and manned missions
don't carry any biological material
off world in such a way that it
might contaminate or interact with an
unknown environment.

I'm not in favor of bestowing
Physical immortality upon animals ;
if it ever was possible .
All that we can glean from them
is a limited insight into the
functional similarities of their
and our genome , and even then I'd
be very reluctant to promote this
if there were risks involved .

Some might think that disease is
a natural part of human evolution
and that the incorporation of
foreign material into our genomes
in some way speeds up evolution .
I say that in the extreme instances
, that some experience , this is far
from the truth . Fatal diseases don't
confer upon the individual or species
a genetic advantage ; misery and
suffering is the consequence .

Caution , intellect , science and
technology are what we use in seeking
Physical Immortality .
Also ; as non-invasive and ethical
approach as possible .
