Firstly , recent news about advances in the reprogramming of
adult cells to the embryonic state , through the application
of genetic regulators and signalling molecules .
The introduction of molecules , such as SOX , that bind to the
genome appears to be less essential than previously thoughr.
By using small molecules that utilize existing signalling
pathways reprogramming is more ameanable and efficient ; also
the use of a viral vector to introduce molecules into the genome
can be avoided .
To some extent the Salamander genome , which is 10x larger than
the Human Genome ; has been sequenced.
This is important as the Salamander has the inate ability to
selectively reprogram cells to grow a new , replacement , limb.
Determination of the molecules and processes involved have
implications for understanding cellular regeneration .
Protein folding is computationally intensive ; usually relying
upon statistical methods , such as that of Monte Carlo simulation.
By making the simulation of folding available to manual manipulation,
via a computer interface screen and keyboard , mouse , other; it is
possible to solve the folding problem for a wide class of proteins.
Though Artificial Intelligence may not be immediately applicable ;
perhaps a less ambitious use of an Expert System that scans the
user interface may yeild a worthwile methodolgy that can then be
, to some extent , automated.
The U.K. now has a particle accellerator dedicated to probing the
fine structure of molecules , including proteins.
Aboard the Mars Explorer is a scanning microscope that has returned
detailed images of samples from the Martian surface.
Optical Metamaterials seem more likely than previously ,
mention has been made of a perfect lens that would
be used with a usual microscope to yeild a resolution of 10nm.
In the recent edition of Scientific American mention of a portable
imaging device based upon the principle of NMR spectroscopy has been
developed and will most likely undergo further refinement.
All of the developments mentioned in this paragraph could ,
eventually , be available to anyone as an additional module to
a personal computer system.
This might hasten the knowledge required in the quest for
Physical Immortality for Everyone .
