Hollywood producers reputedly extensively interviewed Carlos Castaneda, then sent him home saying that there was nothing they could do with his life story, that it was "too complicated."

After he dies, Hollywood producers come up with some magic of their own- THE MATRIX! While borrowing from a number of other spiritual and SF Sources, the main-de-main Bedrock of THE MATRIX was Carlos Castaneda's Don Juan books.

Gene Roddenberry, the inventor of STAR TREK, went through something similar, but was able to stick up for himself before they robbed him down to his shorts.
