<p>
The use of relatively simple nano-technology has resulted in
an imaging device with sub-wavelength capability.
Furthermore this device can be produced using present day
technology on a large and commercial scale.
The basic construction involves a pattern of nanometer size
holes , these act as waveguides and provide enough resolution,
and a small enough aperture , to view individual molecules.
This is an inherently simpler design than that using metamaterials
and requires less manufacturing steps than a silicon microcircuit.
Hence the potential exists for most anyone to have molecular
imaging capabilities.
