PFPC Daily - January 15, 2005
The saltworks El Real, in eastern Camagüey province [Cuba],
reported a record salt production in 2004.
Company executives pointed out that 90,000 tons of salt, some 30,000
tons above predictions, were extracted last year.
They added that the company produced 34,900 tons of salt, accounting
for a 16-percent increase, as well as 21,900 tons of table salt.
In addition, the company produced 4,000 tons of iodized salt enriched
with fluorine, which were packed in one-kilogram bags.
A machine to automatically fill the bags will be installed this year,
in order to guarantee a steady supply of iodized salt to the
provinces of Villa Clara, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila and
Camagüey.
The experts said that investments might favor exports of El Real
products to the Caribbean market.
