Re: [peoples with ostomy2] Help

Thank you so much Veronica. You have been such a huge help. My mom has a great
outlook on all this, she just has so many questions that were not answered, but
with the help of this site and people like you, she'll get used to it much
faster.

Thank you again!

Shelli

hello my name is veronica and wore an ileostomy for 6mnths due to crohns. A few
suggestions i could recommend are... gas, the only thing that really makes that
go away is she will find that when she wears more clothing you hear it less,
walking is very important also i would take my bag and fold it in half and tuck
it in my undies. As for emptying the bag when out just sit on the toilet i would
just sit and open my legs but first put toilet paper in the bowl that makes it
not splash when you empty... and ALWAYS! ALWAYS! ALWAYS! carry extra supplies
when out you never know when you may need them. I also carried cottonelle wipes
(they are flushable) and after emptying just fold the bag down a little and wipe
inside and close it up and your done. Things will get better for her right now
it probably seems like the end of the world but i promise it does get better
with time. take care and god bless.

surgery have ET nurses. Your mother never saw one..and alot of the time the
county you live in ..if you are in the states have an et nurse there..if her
insurance allows and that..she can make home visits to help your mother learn
how to take care of it and all the things that go along with an ostomy

cancer
earlier this year and had colonostomy surgery over 2 weeks ago.

She is recuperating, having some difficulties and worried about her
future.

Some issues that she really needs help with are:

Soreness on her bottom area from surgery
"Gas" noises from her bag (Is there a bag that doesn't make as much
noise?)
The best way to disgard the waste and clean the bag when necessary
How do you empty your bag when away from home? Do you empty into a
Ziplock type bag; a cup; the toilet?
And, what type of products do you take with you when you are away
from home (cleaners, squirt bottle, etc.)

Thank you so much for all your help. I am planning on getting her
involved with the Ostomy Association in our area, but they only meet
once a month.

Take care,

Shelli
