Re: [peoples with ostomy2] Help

Thank you so much Annetta. You have been a great help. My mom has a great
outlook and I know this will become second nature to her
eventually............it's just all so new, she has so many questions and this
site and people like you have been so great!

Thank you again!

Shelli

Hi Shelli...I, too, had rectal cancer which resulted in a colostomy. It takes a
long time to get over some of the onset symptoms. My rear end was sore for a
couple of months.
Someone said for you to see the ET nurse, if there's one available. Personally,
I don't know what I would have done without mine. She was a "jewel".
I have been blessed with insurance which takes care of my supplies. I carry a
cosmetic bag with my supplies in it so if I'm out and need to change I'll have
the necessary items that I need.
As for the gas, there are a lot of things that will cause that. Drinking thru a
straw, different foods, etc.....
If there is a support group in your area, it would be very helpful for her to go
to meetings as the people there know exactly what she is going thru. It can be
depressing, but "thank God" we are still alive.
If there are any questions I can answer for either of you, feel free to email
me.

My prayers are with you...annetta motsinger...living in Indiana

Hi, my name is Shelli. My mother was diagnosed with rectal cancer
earlier this year and had colonostomy surgery over 2 weeks ago.

She is recuperating, having some difficulties and worried about her
future.

Some issues that she really needs help with are:

Soreness on her bottom area from surgery
"Gas" noises from her bag (Is there a bag that doesn't make as much
noise?)
The best way to disgard the waste and clean the bag when necessary
How do you empty your bag when away from home? Do you empty into a
Ziplock type bag; a cup; the toilet?
And, what type of products do you take with you when you are away
from home (cleaners, squirt bottle, etc.)

Thank you so much for all your help. I am planning on getting her
involved with the Ostomy Association in our area, but they only meet
once a month.

Take care,

Shelli
