Hi Everyone.....
who is new and has been with us for awhile. I am Jacy. I have had my
ileostomy for 23 years coming up in November. I had ulcerative
colitis that turned into toxic megacolon. I then developed Hodgkin's
disease. I used to tell people that the two were not related.
Medical science has discovered that the two are related. They are
both auto immune diseases. They may have been related to each other
when I had them. Anyway, is everyone having a great summer? One sad
note to this year is that the United Ostomy Association is going to
close its doors in September. I would have been lost when I first got
my ostomy if I wouldn't have had the help of this fine group of people
to help me. It is sad to see, but at the same time, it means that
medical science is advancing to the point that there are just not as
many ostomies needed anymore. With the new fangled procedures that
they are performing these days, many people are not getting ostomies.
So, we will be here to help each other. I am a Registered Nurse. I
have been a nurse for 20 years. I am not an ET nurse, or now days it
is called a WOCN.(Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse). I am here to help
in an ostomate capacity only. I may be able to shed some light on
skin problems, etc, but please don't take it to the bank, so to speak.
I am glad you are all here, and thanks Whit, for asking me to share.
I am grateful.
Jacy
