I got my ileostomy when I was 6. I'm 28 now. My mom always took care of me,
and when I moved out about 5 years ago, I really started taking care of
myself. Accidents?? They never go away! :) But seriously, it didn't take
long to realize that changing my appliance or having accidents wasn't a huge
horrible thing. By the time I was out of my parents house for a month, I had
my own system set up and was taking care of everything. It gets easier :)

Subject: [peoples with ostomy2] New to the Group - With a Question
I just joined this group and I like it very much. I have both a
colostomy and an Illeostomy. I've always had help in changing the
appliances but I want to learn to start doing it myself. What I'm
wondering is how long did it take you all to learn how to do this
yourselves without any accidents and how long did it take you to feel
comfortable doing it? I'll appreciate any help. Thanks
